Welcome! This page has general information of the Peck Lake Protective Association.
The Peck Lake Protective Association was founded and incorporated in 1973. The organization was established for the mutual advancement of the interest of its members to:
- aid in the formulation and establishment of sound policies and practices, designed to conserve, restore, protect, and safely regulate the natural resources within the area commonly known as Peck's Lake
- secure a greater interest in civic affairs in the Towns of Johnstown and Bleecker
- promote equality in assessments
- take into consideration and preserve the original peace and tranquility of the lands surrounding Peck Lake
The PLPA addresses different concerns and challenges of the residents of Peck Lake. The PLPA works with the Pecks in developing guidelines for the operation of watercraft upon the waters of Peck Lake along with the types of watercraft permitted. The PLPA operates as a cooperative body in dealing with the local governments of Johnstown and Bleecker. Issues the PLPA has dealt with over years have ranged from establishing fair assessments of Peck Lake property values to the conditions of the roads that service our community to the delivery of mail. Over the years many residents of Peck Lake have also opted to hold offices within the local governments which has helped to promote the interests of our community.
The PLPA also helps in monitoring the quality of the lake and its fisheries. Members of the PLPA regularly test water quality of the lake so that its health can be determined. Along with the Pecks, the PLPA developed a fish stocking program to aid in preserving the quality of the fisheries of Peck Lake. Recently, both parties hired an outside consultant to conduct a study of the current fish population and develop a long term plan to maintain and improve the quality of recreational fishing.
Another important function of the PLPA is the development of a sense of community among the residents of the lake. The PLPA sponsors events throughout the year to help bring the residents of Peck Lake together. Events range from cooperative cleanup efforts of the roads, Christmas Caroling, the Annual Dinner/Dance to golf and fishing tournaments. Our SCHEDULE OF EVENTS web page lists some of the events that are held annually. The PLPA also publishes a NEWSLETTER and maintains this WEB SITE.
Originally, membership was limited to only property owners of Peck Lake, but a large contingent of parties interested in the betterment of Peck Lake was overlooked, the seasonal campers at the west end of the lake. Many of these people have been regular and long time visitors to the lake. Affiliate membership was extended to them in 1997. To date, there are over 150 members and 24 affiliates. For additional information about PLPA membership, please contact Nancy Allen, PLPA President.
