The clear waters of Peck Lake, with a reputation for large Northern Pike, offer great opportunities for the sport fishermen. As a 1370 acre man-made lake, created from its original three bodies of water, the lake offers adequate fishery structure and habitat that the Lake Committee is continually working to improve. In addition to Pike, the lake also hosts Rainbow; Chain Pickerel; Largemouth, Smallmouth and Rock Bass; Crappie; Yellow Perch; Bluegills; and Bullheads. Our annual, member-supported, fish stocking program ensures the continued productivity of the lake. Located on the lake, the Peck Brothers have a full service marina offering boat sales, service and rentals; cabin and camp site rentals; live bait; fuel and a snack bar. The marina also has a good boat launching ramp.

The Fish Stocking program at Peck Lake goes back as far as the days of Albert Peck when he first introduced Crappies brought in from the South to our waters. Since those days, the success of the fisheries of Peck Lake has been a concern to many. While we have seen success in some of our efforts, not all have met with success. Since the 1970's stocking Rainbow Trout has been attempted several times, however lake conditions do not allow them to thrive in our waters.

In the early 1980's, the PLPA and the Peck family asked the New York State Department of Environment & Conservation to study the lake. A lot of effort went into the DEC study. At that time, the fish population was considered to be good and the food supply adequate. During this decade primarily Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass were stocked.

A more aggressive program was established in the 1990's with Bass, Crappies and Bullheads stocked as game-fish and Perch as feeder fish for the larger species. Towards the end of the decade, the Fish Stocking Committee, chaired by Bill Nitsche and Alby Peck, determined that another study be done to see if our yearly fish stocking was the correct approach. This study was completed in April 2001. The current study conducted in the fall of 2008 not only examined the fish population, but also was concerned with water quality, weed identification and fish habitat. The results of this study provide guidance and direction for our stocking efforts, and are available for review on the PLPA members’ portion of the website under "POSTINGS".

There are no easy answers to improve the fisheries of our lake, but through the continued efforts of the Lake Committee and its many volunteers we all look forward to positive results. The PLPA has established a special fund for fish stocking, where donations from members and contributions by the PLPA and the Peck Family are earmarked specifically for stocking efforts. In addition, the proceeds from a number of fund-raising events and the monthly bottle drives can be used for the purposes of stocking fish or lake maintenance.
