Water Quality

For the past ten years, Peck Lake has participated in a volunteer lake monitoring program conducted by the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, called Citizens Statewide Lake Assessment Program or "CSLAP" for short. The "full" program entails field observations and lab analyses of water samples. Data reported includes water clarity, nutrient levels, color, algae content and acidity. Peck Lake was involved in the "full" program from 1992 to 1996. The CSLAP "Lite" testing program is completed by our Water Quality Committee with the results reported to the State at the end of each year. Peck Lake became eligible to participate once again in the "full" program in the spring of 2002.

At the end of the five year "full" program, 1992-96, Peck Lake was shown to be a clear, healthy lake with low nutrient levels and a neutral pH of around 7.0. Data over those five years showed no significant trends. The next five years, as a participant of the "Lite" Program, has shown no significant changes in the earlier data except for a slight reduction in water clarity in the last two years and lower pH levels, though they remain in the neutral range.
