CALL TO ORDER Bob Allen, President brought the meeting to order at 9:08 am. A few minutes were given for those present to read the minutes from the August 30, 1997 meeting. Bob Lang and Larry Doubleday made and seconded the motion to accept the minutes as written.

TREASURER'S REPORT Judy Doubleday gave the Treasurer's Report. It has been a good year. More people paid dues - probably because notices were sent out earlier. Judy reported that have have 150 members and 7 associate members. The proposed budget was explained. A special thanks was again given to Dick Cordovano for his audit. Dick suggested to transfer money to the board's restricted fund. This was discussed and a motion was made by Pant Bennett and seconded by Diane Lang to do this.

FISH STOCKING Bill Nitsche reported that 200 Largemouth Bass, 1200 Smallmouth Bass and 5000 Bullhead have been added to the lake. Discussion of the fish stocking heard. Native fish to our lake are Bass, Perch, Bullhead and Crappie. Whatever money is allocated to fish stocking goes in full to that. Bill Nitsche and Alby Peck are the committee and could use more members.

MAILBOX UPDATE Delivery of mail to the new mailboxes on North Shore will begin on September 14. Keys can be picked up now at the Post Office in Gloversville. The mailboxes are owned by the Post Office. Each unit costs $1000. The Post Office takes care of everything with the boxes. Parcels will be left in the larger boxes at the bottom. Keys to the larger boxes will be left in the individual mailbox. Paper delivery will continue in the black tubes because the Leader Herald and the Daily Gazette will not share smaller tubes. Some still feel the cure may be worse than the disease. Special thanks were given to Dave and Brett Bartholomew, Bob Lang, Earl Hogue, Arnie Henry, Bill and Paul Nestork, Vince Randazzo and Bob Allen who all helped with the structure.

WATER QUALITY Stu Smith has continued to do water testing even though the state program ended two ears ago. The Light Test continues to show clarity. The Acidity Test shows that we are still very neutral with a pH of 6.8, (7 is neutral). A pH above 6.0 is healthy; you are in danger if a pH is below 6. Stu will continue to monitor the lake. The state does not think acid rain is a problem in this area, but will come if needed.

Weeds continue to be a problem in Beaver Bay. There was discussion on the changes over the years. Beaver Bay residents have been pulling weeds. Residents feel the weed is coontail, but this should be investigated. Possible causes could be water temperature, runoff from the roads, or septic. Septic Dye test kits are available from Larry Doubleday and all are encouraged to test their tanks.

WATER LEVEL The water level did not drop much over the summer. In 1976 John Pickard of Niagara Mohawk, the PLPA under Tom Aery, and the Pecks determined that the water level would drop 3 feet over the summer.

BIRDS There were 32 geese on the lake this summer. Each goose produces about a 1/2 pound of droppings per day. These will pollute our lake. Please do not feed the geese. There were more ducks than normal. Also the seagulls were in great abundance. They will eat the eat and babies of other birds.

FEDERATION OF LAKES Bob Allen went to the meeting. There are bugs that eat milfoil. Milfoil grows about a foot a day. Bob has pictures of milfoil so people can see what it looks like. Give him a call.

NIAGARA MOHAWK About thirty bids have been placed with Niagara Mohawk for the sale of the power generating in Ephratah and Pecks Dam. Legal consults said it could be difficult with the APA because of wetland and Peck's Lease.

REVIEW OF EVENTS Thanks were given to Dave and Liz Pratt for hosting the Christmas Caroling party. Thanks were given to Alby Peck, Bill and Carol Nitsche for the February Snow Party. Thanks were given to the Wheelocks and the Carlsons for Spring Cleanup.

OLD BUSINESS Holly Business Systems will be closing due to retirement of Dorothy and Ron Holly at the end of the year. They have been a big help to the PLPA for many years and it has been appreciated. Thank You. Larry Doubleday will take over and the Holly's will help in the transition.

NEW BUSINESS

Don Stephens suggested a list of "dos and don'ts" should be posted at everyone's home so visitors know what is acceptable at Peck Lake. This should definitely be done if you rent your home to others.

Vince Randazzo suggested a street map near the mailboxes so people know where to go on North Shore.

Esther Neal informed the Ladies that there will be a Fall Luncheon on Wednesday September 16th at Mohawk Station.

Dick Cordovano reminded us to be aware of garbage and recycle dates. Do not leave empty receptacles at the road too long. Maybe weekenders should take their trash and recyclables home or make arrangements with neighbors.

The Golf Tournament was discussed. Should it be scratch or Calloway? Contact or Bob Allen.

STAR Tax Program was discussed. Must be a senior citizen to be eligible. Do it now. Forms will go out in a newsletter.

Wellington Peck said the water level is at 18" which equates to last year. He thanked the PLPA for the Associate Membership. He feels this good.

New lake residents at the meeting introduced themselves: Dave and Carol Bartholomew, Richard and Sharon Bokus, Grace Decker ( assoc. member )

The meeting was adjourned at 10:55 after a motion was made by Diane Lang and seconded by Russ Hogue.

Respectfully Submitted,
Joan Ireland, Secretary
